Spare Time June 19, 2007
Since writing “Fuck me, it’s March!” I’ve since thought “Fuck me, it’s April!”, “Fuck me, it’s May!” and “Fuck me, it’s June!”. I cannot believe how fast the final months at University flew by. Things seemed to go… medium… in the end. I quit my job at Gala Bingo to concentrate on Uni work, which seems to have been a good move.
I got my final project handed in on Tuesday 5th June, and set off for Download Festival on wednesday 6th June. Absolutely the best for post-education chillin out, maxin, relaxin all cool. Bands of the weekend were Buckcherry who opened the festival for me, Reel Big Fish who closed it, Korn who were mindblowing (and also the sweatest gig I’ve ever attended), and Linkin Park who put on an amazing, energetic show.
I even got a bit of crowd-surfing action before the feet of Slash, playing some Guns n Roses tunage with Velvet Revolver, check me out at 2:50! (or 1:00 if it’s counting down)
I feel a little guilty, since that was my early exit to get to the front to see Korn on the second stage round the corner.
The Sunday night was crazy - last night of the festival, and officially the time to get drunk and act stupid. After consuming rum and cider between seeing the mighty Dream Theater and Reel Big Fish, skanking my braces off for the entirety of Reel Big Fish’s set and getting canned back at the gazebo, I thought it was time to don the shiny red thong. Complete with a backpack full of cider and cheap rosé wine through a sports-cap bottle. To all those who find it hard striking up conversations with strangers: Write “FREE HUGS” on your chest. It works.
So anyway, it’s been a week since we came home from the festival, and for the first time since leaving school I’ve got more time than I know what to do with. I guess I’ll do some freelance work before I go travelling so to any prospective clients: I’m a reliable, sensible, dedicated worker. Email me!
Other than that I’m teaching myself music theory and learning as much about playing the guitar as I possibly can. I’m looking to buy an acoustic guitar for travelling with, and perhaps even for a spot of busking.
That’s all for now.
