UK Travel Day 2 - Nessie July 20, 2007
After clearing the slight hangover from Johnny Foxes we set off for Loch Ness around 11am. We found a really cool little walk starting a few miles from the Loch through the woods. The rain’s been heavy up here over the last week or so and as such there were a few areas of the path that were flooded. Naturally, I was the only one to slip in and spent the day with a rather soggy left foot.
The loch itself was beautifully serene, and would make a great get-away in it’s own right. We followed the trail back to the car to get some pasta before setting off for Edinburgh.

The suprisingly long drive to Edinburgh took around 3 hours, but it gave me a chance to dry my shoe by hanging it out of the car window. We also stopped in a lay-by to eat some massive weiners and waved goodbye to Garry the river. Martyn and myself shared the rather pleasant drive, and we arrived in Morton Hall Caravan Park at about 6pm where we met a very hairy cow.
This was the official night to celebrate University results (again), so we got the bus into Edinburgh city centre for a night on the town. It turned into a mini pub crawl including some live music, a massively grand Wetherspoons pub and finishing up in a rock club called ‘Opium’ at Grassmarket. Everyone had a great time, and as such I’m feeling pretty groggy from the booze and pretty achy from the dancing (writing this the next day). If you’re into your rock music and you’re out in Edinburgh, I fully recommend you check it out!
We had an hour to kill waiting for the night-bus to come and the time was passed by trying to high five strangers. I managed to get into double figures, which I thought was pretty impressive (even if I say so myself) since that was probably three quarters of the people who walked by. A minor highlight was overcoming the language barrier with a pair of Spanish dudes and getting a foreign-five and a bit of a laugh without any language involved!
