EU Travel Day 4 - Assende August 12, 2007
Although the alarm was set for 7:30, we didn’t get up until 10:45. After the first few nights I thought this travelling thing would finally get me into the sleeping pattern I’ve been trying (and failing) to get into for so long. Never mind.
We are stupid.
It was nearly 2pm by the time we drove off the camp site, so we decided not to see Gent as was previously planned and head straight to Almere to see Kiros, a friend. Clearly, travelling has not yet broadened our minds fully, as a town called Arse End (well, Assende) appealed to our infantile sense of humour and had us laughing for about five minutes.
We arrived at about 5:30pm after getting slightly lost. Kiros’ mum had cooked a beautiful lasagne the day before, which had ample left-overs and fed Kiros, Martyn and myself. To go with this, there was barbeque food and salad, which included apple and cheese which was again, very nice. It was in direct contrast to the beans and peanuts I had in a mug for breakfast.
There was a camp site within walking distance of Almere town centre, so we camped there and headed into the town for about 10pm to unwind and have a few beers. We ended up in a little bar called “Chameleon” which I’d been to on a previous visit. It’s more like a typical English pub which made us feel more at home. Rather than waiting for table service and picking up a bill at the end, we sat at the bar and just paid as we went, which worked well for drinking in rounds.

We had a few games of pool, smoked a joint on a jetty on the side of a very peaceful lake Weerwater and discussed star contsellations for a little while before Kiros headed home and we headed back to the camp. It was around 4:30 by now, so it was a pretty long day and we fell asleep within seconds.

if you want to fuel infintile giggles get a 1 euro coin and look at sweden and finland at the top, what does it look like
