EU Travel Day 76 - Barcelona October 24, 2007

The camp site was miles away from Barcelona, with a bus at 10:30am and the next one being 9:00pm, so we got up and took the only bus into the city! The first thing we went to see was the Sagrada Familia, or the holy family cathedral. It truly is amazing; building started in 1882 and wont be finished for around another 30 years. It was worked on by Antoni Gaudi, who dedicated his life to the project before he was ran over by a tram.

One notable thing about Barcelona was the creativity of the street performers. La Ramblas, the main street, had people doing kick ups, a human statue of a guy reading on the toilet, men dressed as vampires jumping out of boxes and scaring tourists, a Michael Jackson style dancer… Oh, and there were pet shop style market stalls selling everything from Hamsters to Cockerels.

We found a bar called Ryans later in the day. The beers were €1 before 8:30pm and with each one we got a €2 discount for PortAventura, a nearby theme park we’ll visit. We decided to save the main drinking session for another day, as we’d found a youth hostel to stay at instead of the camp site, and we wouldn’t be limited by the lack of transport (or so we thought, more on that later) from there.

Back at the camp site we made some food and continued playing Super Mario World on the DS.
