EU Travel Day 73 - Cinque Terre Walk October 24, 2007
Our feet were finally ready to do the Cinque Terre walk that we were waiting for. Cinque Terre means Five Towns, as the trail goes through five small coastal towns. The weather was really good and the views from along the cliffs were gorgeous all the way round. The towns were really tiny, taking only a few minutes to walk through. The walk took about five hours altogether, and we stopped for pizza thinking it was the end when we in fact had another hour and a half to do. That was a struggle with a belly full of margherita!
Although the views were incredible, the walk itself was relaxing and there were plenty of friendly foreigners to chat to, the doubtless highlight for me was winning an argument with Martyn about Acorns. He yelled that a Fir cone was called an Acorn, and that’s just what Acorns grow into before they’re an Oak tree. I was actually doubting my own Acorn related knowlege, but it was resolved later when we saw an Oak tree and a Fir tree growing next to one another.
When we got to Monte Rosso, the final town, we had some beers and rested our tired little feet in the sea before getting the train back to the camp site.
The evening was spent partying our tits off in Deiva Marina. We took the 9pm bus into the town, and found a total of two open bars housing around ten people. We got the 10pm bus back and played Super Mario World on the camp site.
