EU Travel Day 55 - Caves October 10, 2007

The day started with the best showers of the trip so far - high pressure, hot, and free. We had some sarnies and set off for the Skocjan caves. We arrived at 13:05, just in time to see the tour group leave. This is our typical style, but we got to see some awesome views and reading in the sun atop a cliff face whilst waiting for the 15:30 tour.

The caves themselves were astonishing. Amazing displays of stalactites and stalagmites in the ’silentcave’ and a walkway 60m above a gushing river in the massive ‘rustling cave’. It was worth the drive to Slovenia just for the 90 minute tour, although I did get nervous of the heights again.

The rest of the day was spent on the camp site, with our lone tent, cooking, reading, and writing 12 days worth of blog down on paper.

  1. They were pretty awsome. One of the highlights of our trip.

Did you get caught in the total-lack-of-campsites-anywhere-near problem?

  2. Nope :P We were camped by the nearby, far bigger caves that some Slovenians have since told us were better though. I don’t think so, for one, the other caves didn’t have the awesome bubbly tour guide we had.
