EU Travel Day 54 - Tolls, Tolls, Tolls. October 10, 2007
Today we were heading for Slovenia, which would be a four and a half hour drive, minimum. We headed off around midday and one of the first roads presented us with the single most ridiculous thing I have ever seen happen on a road.
We stopped at a crossroads waiting to go left and moved into the middle waiting for a gap in traffic or for the lights to change to green. To our left were 2 more cars. Then we noticed to our right were another 3 cars. Six lanes…all heading for a 2 lane road. What happened next wil be easy to imagine for those who have ever seen an episode of Wacky Races. Cars were speeding for the lanes, some were slowing down, others were weaving in and out of each other. It was madness. Somehow everyone made it through and just carried on as normal.
A motorway toll area
After alot of boring motorway driving and alot of expensive but unavoidable tolls (€24 worth!) we arrived in Slovenia. Blue skies, warm sun and cheap petrol. At last!
We headed for our campsite, just outside a small town called Postojna, and whiled away the hours reading, making food and talking before we headed for bed.
