A New Town January 21, 2008

by Dave

On Friday I put as many belongings as I could fit into my little Skoda and set off for Nuneaton (near Coventry), to move in with a guy called Johnpaul.  I’ve been here a couple of days at the moment and I’m just getting to grips with the town really, I didn’t manage to bring a guitar or any speakers and everything is literally very quiet.

On Friday night I hit the town with Johnpaul, his sister and his mate Lee.  It was a fun night, although I have learnt that no matter how much you think another pint will help you feel comfortable in an unusual place, all it does is make you more drunk.  Also, the only ‘real’ nightclub sells VK (which is WKD’s slightly skanky cousin) at a shocking £3.35 a bottle.

My new toys in action

The next week is going to be fairly uneventful, and then I start my job next Monday.  In case you don’t know, the job is at a company who make computer games, Rare, as a Graduate Software Engineer (that’s a programmer), it’s owned by Microsoft so I’ll be making games for the XBox.

The highlight of my day today was buying a bin and a laundry basket for my room.  That gives you some idea of how inactive I’m being at the moment.

Reflections On a Big Year January 8, 2008

by Dave

I think everyone reflects on the year they’ve had as it closes, and I am too.  2007 was surely the ‘biggest’ year I’ve ever had, which is an odd thing to say when it seemed to pass so quickly.

route2This time last year I was working hard on my final year modules, and that continued steadily until June 9th when my life erupted like a big volcano of social excitement.  In the following five months I’d been to a music festival, an eleven-person holiday, ten days travelling the UK and another 90 travelling the continent (and I finally drew the route with Google maps).  Dotted in between I managed to get to at least seven other gigs, lose a long term relationship, quit a job, start a job, quit another job and graduate!

Back to the present…

I’m currently looking for a house share in Tamworth or Nuneaton (East Midlands), and as soon as I’m moved in I can start earning some real money and experience with Rare.  I’ve been visiting the area this weekend to look at some houses and flats, more news to come on that soon, hopefully by the end of the week!
